What makes this role stand out: Unlike many positions in automation or control engineering, this one comes with minimal travel requirements. While similar roles often require frequent on-site deployments, you’ll focus almost entirely on developing and programming wind farm control software – working from our office in Hamburg with a highly skilled and collaborative team. Occasional travel (1–2 times a year) may be required for testing or alignment, but your core responsibility lies in the technical implementation, architecture, and optimization of control systems – not in field service. If you’re looking for a role where you can deepen your programming expertise (C#, C++, IEC 61131-3) and work on impactful renewable energy projects without being constantly on the road, this is it.
YOUR TASKS:
- Design and implement software solutions for the Nordex Acciona wind farm controller.
- Translate functional control requirements into robust code (primarily PLC-based and/or C#/C++)
- Develop and optimize communication interfaces (e.g. Profinet, Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC60870-5-101/104)
- Validate control software through lab tests and remote field tests
- Contribute to performance optimization of wind farm control systems
- Collaborate closely with Control and Grid Code teams as well as testing and validation teams
- Take ownership of complex control development projects and lead their implementation
- Provide 3rd-level support for the Nordex Acciona wind farm fleet
YOUR PROFILE:
- University degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related fields*
- Solid programming experience in C#, C++ and/or IEC 61131-3 based PLC programming
- Experience in embedded systems and real-time applications is a plus
- Strong understanding of PLC architectures and control algorithms
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. OPC UA, DNP3, Bluecom)
- Experience with grid codes and renewable energy systems (wind, BESS, PV, hybrid plants)
- Ideally experience with IEC61400-25 namespace and model-based design (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink)
- Structured, reliable, and independent working style, combined with strong team and communication skills
- Fluent in English (spoken and written), knowledge of German or Spanish is a plus
- For foreign qualifications, recognition as the corresponding Spanish degree equivalency is required when applying.
YOUR BENEFITS
In addition to the opportunity to make our world a little more sustainable, we offer you:
- Some offers may vary by location
