The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) Research Group has a twenty-year history providing clinical care and researching in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), other motor neuron diseases (hereditary spastic paraplegias, post-polio syndrome and spinal muscular atrophies), as well as in myasthenia gravis, genetically determined myopathies, and peripheral neuropathies.
We are seeking a Research Technician, with interest to develop a future PhD thesis, for the identification of new biomarkers in ALS and the development of predictive biomarkers panels for progression of neuromuscular diseases (ALS, CIDP and myopathies).
Coordination and follow-up of cases: selection of patients based on neurological clinical criteria, management and shipment of samples, return of results, etc.
Management of data entry into databases, including review of medical records.
Handling, processing and storage of biological samples and associated data.
Maintenance of laboratory records (paper and electronic) and laboratory equipment.
Stock control of consumables and reagents.
Collaborate with the development of current projects, carrying out the molecular and cellular analyses.
Give support in preparation of manuscripts for its publication or memory’s drafts for grants/projects applications.
Give support in the presentation of results in meetings and congresses.
Participate in outreach and science communication activities.
Attend translational meetings of the Neuromuscular Diseases Unit
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Biosciences (Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, …)
Master’s degree in the area of science/medicine.
Average grade must be more than 8.0 (both bachelor’s and master’s Degree).
Eligible to apply for a competitive pre/post-doctoral fellowship.
Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, English (professional proficiency).
PhD degree in the area of science/medicine will be highly evaluated.
Authorship of articles in high-impact journals, and conference abstracts, will be highly evaluated.
Interest and expertise to work on the areas of neuroimmunology and neuromuscular diseases.
Knowledge of additional languages (French).
Experience in laboratory procedures related to DNA/RNA purification, molecular biology (ELISA, ELLA, Luminex, Western blot, PCR, RT-PCR) and cellular biology (cytometry).
Proficiency in MS Office (Word. Excel, Access)
Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
Strong sense of responsibility, organisation, initiative and self-motivation
Highly organised adaptable and methodical person
Skills in genetic analysis.
Experience in Primary cells cultures of human cells (fibroblast, microglia-like).
Skills in bioinformatics, Linux and R programming
Labour conditions:
Working hours: Full-time (37,5 hours per week).
Gross annual salary: €30,000.00
Contract type: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities
Duration: 6 months extendable
