About the Role
Odyssey Hotel Group is looking for an experienced, hands-on and service driven Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering & Maintenance Department within one of our hotels.
As Chief Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that all hotel facilities, technical installations and building systems operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with Odyssey Hotel Group standards, brand requirements and local legislation. You will lead the Engineering team, manage preventive maintenance, drive continuous improvement and ensure an exceptional guest experience through reliable and well-maintained facilities.
This role requires a proactive leader with excellent technical knowledge, strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate professionally in both the local language and English.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Operations

Lead and manage the Engineering & Maintenance Department.

Ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of all technical installations throughout the hotel.

Oversee Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), HVAC, Building Management Systems (BMS), Fire Life Safety systems and all other technical equipment.

Maintain guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, back-of-house and exterior areas to the highest operational standards.

Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers.

Respond promptly to operational issues and minimise disruption to hotel operations.

Support all hotel departments with technical expertise and operational assistance.
Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management
-
Develop, implement and continuously improve the hotel's Preventive Maintenance Programme.

Ensure preventive maintenance is completed on time and in accordance with company standards.

Monitor the condition and performance of all building assets.
-
Plan repairs, replacements and lifecycle improvements.
-
Maintain an accurate asset register and technical documentation.
Maintenance Management Systems & Digital Tools

Manage all maintenance activities through Transcendent (Actabl).
-
Ensure all Work Orders, Preventive Maintenance tasks and Room Preventive Maintenance are completed within company KPI targets.

Maintain accurate asset information, including manufacturers, model numbers, serial numbers, manuals and maintenance history.

Upload service reports, inspection reports, certificates and maintenance documentation into Transcendent.

Effectively use Odyssey Hotel Group engineering systems, maintenance platforms, reporting tools and compliance systems.

Ensure all required documentation is accurate, complete and up to date.

Support the implementation of new digital engineering initiatives and technologies.
Compliance & Safety

Ensure full compliance with all local legislation, hotel brand standards and Odyssey Hotel Group policies.

Maintain all statutory inspections, testing and certifications.
-
Ensure Fire Life Safety systems remain fully operational and compliant.

Support emergency response procedures and business continuity planning.
-
Maintain technical records, inspection logs and compliance documentation.
Energy & Sustainability
-
Monitor energy and water consumption.
-
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
-
Support Odyssey Hotel Group sustainability initiatives and environmental objectives.
-
Promote efficient operation of all technical installations while maintaining guest comfort.
Leadership & Team Development

Lead, coach and develop the Engineering team.
-
Foster a positive, safety-focused and service-oriented working environment.

Plan daily workloads and prioritise maintenance activities.
-
Conduct regular performance discussions and support employee development.
-
Encourage collaboration with all hotel departments.
Financial Management
-
Prepare and manage the Engineering budget.
-
Control maintenance expenditure and contractor costs.
-
Manage spare parts inventory and procurement.
-
Support CAPEX planning and project execution.

Obtain quotations and ensure cost-effective purchasing.
Daily Operations
-
Review maintenance activities and outstanding work orders daily.
-
Prioritise guest-impacting technical issues.
-
Perform routine inspections of technical rooms and critical equipment.
-
Monitor HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, chillers, electrical installations and water treatment systems.
-
Verify emergency exits, technical room access and safety equipment.
-
Conduct regular hotel walkthroughs to identify maintenance requirements.

Support Duty Management when operationally required.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Minimum 5 years' experience in hotel engineering, including a leadership role.
-
Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems.

Excellent understanding of HVAC, BMS and Fire Life Safety systems.
-
Experience managing preventive maintenance programmes.
-
Experience managing contractors and technical service providers.
-
Strong financial awareness and budget management experience.
-
Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably Transcendent (Actabl).

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems.
-
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to work independently while leading a high-performing team.
Language Requirements
