Amentum is seeking a SWMC Operator to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The SWMC Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and tasks involved in the management of solid waste in accordance with established protocols and manuals.
Job Responsibilities:

Operating equipment required for solid waste management tasks in accordance with the Government-accepted Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC) Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manual.
- Performing daily operations related to the collection, sorting, processing, and disposal of solid waste materials.
- Conducting inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintaining an organized and efficient work environment at the Solid Waste Management Center.
- Recording and documenting work performed, including equipment usage, maintenance, and waste handling activities, following all organizational and regulatory standards.
- Ensuring adherence to workplace safety practices, environmental compliance, and operational guidelines while performing waste management tasks.
- Supporting waste reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
- Reporting any mechanical issues, equipment concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Collaborating with team members to achieve operational efficiency and support the overall goals of the Solid Waste Management Center.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:

Fully qualified and capable of operating the required solid waste management equipment, as per the Government-accepted SWMC O&M Manual.
- Proven knowledge of solid waste management processes, including waste handling, sorting, operations, and safety guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance and checks on mechanical equipment.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Must successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance requirements for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English.
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience operating equipment or working in a solid waste management operation.
- Knowledge of environmental safety, compliance standards, and sustainability practices related to waste management.
- Prior experience in an OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) or austere environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Valid country driver’s license.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
