Company Description
Nexthink is the leader in digital employee experience management software. The company provides IT leaders with unprecedented insight allowing them to see, diagnose and fix issues at scale impacting employees anywhere, with any application or network, before employees notice the issue. As the first solution to allow IT to progress from reactive problem solving to proactive optimization, Nexthink enables its more than 1,500 customers to provide better digital experiences to more than 25+ million employees. Dual headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland and Boston, Massachusetts, Nexthink has 9 offices worldwide.
Nexthink helps IT teams delight people at work. Behind that promise sits a platform that takes in trillions of events a day from more than 15 million devices, running on a cell-based architecture that spans AWS regions around the world. The Core Infrastructure team builds and runs the AWS foundation that the whole of engineering depends on. The company has grown from on-prem to cloud and is now making room for new kinds of work, including AI and agent workloads, so there is plenty of genuinely interesting work to do on the layer underneath it all.
Job Description
Why this role matters
Almost everything the rest of engineering does sits on top of this foundation. Every product team, whether they are working on the AI features or the everyday ones, depends on the networking, the clusters, and the platform you look after being there and behaving. You are not building the features yourself, but you will be the reason the people who do can move quickly and trust the ground they are standing on.
What you will do
-
Design, deploy, and run AWS infrastructure from end to end: from the edge and networking through to the multi-account cell architecture and the EKS platform.
-
Move between operational work, automation, requests from other engineering teams, and greenfield design, depending on what the platform needs that week.
-
Automate as much as sensibly possible: the infrastructure-as-code and GitOps that provision, upgrade, and keep the whole estate consistent and free of drift.
-
Work closely with the product and feature teams, turning what they need into self-service capabilities and helping them stay autonomous.
-
Keep the platform reliable, secure, and cost-effective: upgrades, autoscaling, observability, and security hardening and compliance (FedRAMP, FIPS). You will share the on-call rotation with the rest of the team.
-
Help the architecture grow: design new capabilities and take the platform to the next level of scale, resilience, and new kinds of workload.
How we work
A few things that are true about this team and, we think, make it a good place to build:
-
It is a team with real ownership. You look after your own areas and make the call on what is best for the platform, rather than working through a queue of tickets someone else has written.
-
We do not work in a silo. We spend a lot of time with the teams who build on us, including a good deal of design work together, so the platform grows around what people genuinely need.
-
The scale keeps it interesting. A cell-based setup across several regions on modern AWS tooling is a good deal more involved, and more rewarding, than a single-region estate.
-
We are improving something that already works. The platform is live and doing its job. Our task is to take it from good to really good, so the problems are about pushing things further rather than wiring up the basics.
-
Like everyone here we use AI tools day to day, and we are steadily moving the more repetitive operational work onto automation. We would rather have engineers than operators, and we do the automation carefully, because infrastructure is not somewhere to be careless.
Qualifications
Who you are
This matters to us more than any single item on the list below. We are looking for someone who:
-
Works well on their own. You can join a call, understand what a team really needs, and come back with a sensible plan. You think about the problem rather than wait to be told what to do.
-
Communicates clearly and enjoys working with people. Requests come from a lot of directions, and you are comfortable with that. If you have done this in a smaller company or a lean team, that experience counts for a great deal here.
-
Is pragmatic and cares about quality. You know when something needs doing now and when it needs doing properly, and you can juggle a few things at once without dropping any of them.
What you will bring
The essentials
-
A solid cloud infrastructure background and good software-engineering habits, usually around 5+ years as a Platform, DevOps, Software, or Site Reliability Engineer.
-
A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field; or the equivalent in real experience.
-
Strong hands-on AWS across networking, edge, and compute (for example VPC, CloudFront, API Gateway, EKS).
-
Solid Kubernetes (ideally Amazon EKS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform or OpenTofu), with a GitOps mindset.
-
Comfortable moving between operational work, automation, requests from other teams, and new design, and prioritising sensibly across them.
-
A production mindset: you care about uptime, security, and efficiency. And you communicate clearly in English.
Nice to have
-
Experience in or near a compliance-driven environment (FedRAMP or FIPS is a real plus).
-
Building self-service internal developer platforms with modern tooling.
-
Working with cell-based or multi-region architectures at scale.
