JOB TITLE: Secondary Catalan Teacher – AB INITIO
JOB PURPOSE: To teach Catalan Ab Initio classes to Secondary School students (ESO and Bachillerato), particularly newly arrived students with little or no prior knowledge of Catalan, ensuring that planning, preparation, assessment, recording and reporting meet their individual linguistic, academic and social integration needs.
The role involves helping students develop Catalan language proficiency while fostering confidence, inclusion and successful integration into the school community and the Catalan educational environment.
To be flexible and adjust to the needs of an expanding school, actively contributing to its development and growth.
The successful candidate should be a team player and will join a dynamic department of teaching staff in a highly motivating international setting.

Core Requirements of the Post
Planning, Teaching and Class Management
Teach students so that they achieve the best they can by:
· Planning effective language acquisition programmes that develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Catalan.
· Providing exemplary learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom, including the use of digital technology.
· Positively targeting and supporting individual language learning needs.
· Designing lessons that enable students to acquire communicative competence and confidence in Catalan for both social and academic purposes.
· Supporting the linguistic and cultural integration of newly arrived students into school life.
· Maintaining high levels of behaviour and discipline in accordance with school policies.
· Establishing a purposeful, inclusive and safe learning environment.
· Using modern technology to enhance language learning opportunities.
· Making use of Nord Anglia Education Global Campus online and other NAE opportunities for collaboration, innovation and competition.
Tracking, Assessment, Recording, Reporting
· Make effective use of formative and summative assessment to plan challenging and appropriate learning opportunities for all students.
· Assess students’ progress against individual language acquisition goals and recognised Catalan language proficiency frameworks where applicable.
· Monitor and record students’ learning to ensure they remain on track to achieve their language development targets.
· Identify barriers to learning and implement appropriate intervention and support strategies.
· Report on progress to appropriate stakeholders, including parents, tutors and senior leaders.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications/Training
· Qualified to degree level or above - Essential
· Qualified Teacher status - Essential
· Degree in Catalan Philology, Language Education, Linguistics, Education or related field - Essential
· Training in Teaching Catalan as an Additional Language, Language Acquisition, EAL, or Multilingual Education - Desirable
· IB/IMYC teacher training completed - Desirable
Experience / Knowledge
· Minimum 2 years teaching experience - Essential
· High level of English - Desirable
