Coonerang is an independent educational company operating two centres in Arroyomolinos, Madrid.
Our programmes combine practical English, communication, storytelling, missions, problem-solving, teamwork and Cambridge preparation. We are currently professionalising our academic system, developing new materials and building a model that can deliver consistent quality across teachers, groups and future locations.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Academic & Product Director to own and develop Coonerang’s academic system.
The role will be responsible for connecting methodology, curriculum, materials, teacher recruitment, teacher training, classroom quality and student assessment into one coherent and scalable model.
During the first academic year, the Academic & Product Director will work closely with the CEO to align the company’s vision, classroom reality and academic standards. Once the model has been built and validated, the objective is for the role to operate with full ownership and direct accountability.
Main Responsabilities
Methodology and academic architecture
- Define and document what Coonerang teaches, why it teaches it and how it should be delivered.
- Build clear academic progression across early years, primary, secondary and adult programmes.
- Translate the Coonerang vision into practical classroom standards.
Curriculum and materials
- Design, write, review and approve student materials, teacher guides and mission-based learning sequences.
- Establish briefs, deadlines, pilots, acceptance criteria and version control.
- Work with content-development and proofreading support.
Teacher recruitment and qualification
- Define teacher profiles and academic selection criteria.
- Participate in interviews, practical tasks and demo lessons.
- Determine teacher readiness for different ages, programmes and Cambridge groups.
Teacher training and quality
- Build onboarding and training systems.
- Lead observations, feedback and improvement plans.
- Establish clear classroom-quality standards and measurable expectations.
Student progress and assessment
- Define progression criteria and assessment systems.
- Identify students and groups that require intervention.
- Connect academic data with teacher development and family communication.
Leadership and scalability
- Work closely with the Academic Coordinator, Cambridge specialist and teaching team.
- Document processes and systems so that academic quality does not depend on one individual.
- Build a model that can eventually be replicated in additional centres.
Internal Support
The Academic & Product Director will not work alone. The role will be supported by:
- An Academic Coordinator responsible for day-to-day implementation, teacher coordination and operational follow-up.
- A content-development and proofreading profile.
- A Cambridge specialist responsible for examination programmes, materials and technical training.
- The CEO during the first year of design and implementation.
Role Boundaries
This position is not responsible for:
- General administration.
- Payments or collections.
- Routine customer-service enquiries.
- Facilities.
- Marketing.
- Permanent classroom cover.
- Day-to-day timetable administration.
The role may teach occasional pilot or test classes when this is necessary to validate methodology and materials, but it is not intended to carry a standard teaching timetable.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Significant experience in English-language education.
- Direct experience developing curriculum, materials or teacher training.
- Strong written English and the ability to translate ideas into practical documents.
- Experience supporting or leading teachers.
- High standards, sound judgement and the ability to make difficult decisions.
- Strong planning, project-management and deadline discipline.
- A practical, hands-on approach.
- Near-native or C2 English.
- Spanish is highly desirable.
- Legal right to work in Spain.
