Peter Lang is an international publishing group specialising in Humanities and Social Sciences. We publish about 1,000+ books every year in German, English, and French, as well as in multiple other languages, from traditional print products to eBooks and Open Access publications.
Back in 1970, the Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist Peter Lang founded his academic publishing company in his own name. In over fifty years since then, the company has undergone growth and change and overcome many challenges as an independent, internationally focused business. We are now a dynamic, entrepreneurial group of colleagues working across the globe to deliver excellence in academic publishing.
You will experience an international work environment with lean management. The Peter Lang headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, are the central hub for management and administration. The rest of our team is based in continental Europe, Anglo-American regions, and Asia with offices in Berlin, New York, Oxford, Brussels, Chennai and supporting locations in Vienna, Warsaw, Istanbul and Madrid.
We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to join us in supporting our Acquisitions Editors in the important work of author communication, peer review management, manuscript support and preparation, facilitating dialogue with Production and liaising with back-office support in completing and maintaining data.
You will work closely with colleagues in various departments, and should have a proactive, critical-thinking approach to managing your work. Training and support will be given, but a self-starter approach is very welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Acquisitions Editors to achieve the necessary preparatory and structural tasks around the project lifecycle (from the preparation of the offer till the publication).
- Liaise and communicate clearly and effectively with the Acquisitions Editor, with the ERP Data Assistant to ensure the project data is correctly maintained, and with external parties (e.g. authors, series editors, peer-reviewers) under the direction of the Acquisitions Editor
- Manage the schedule of important milestones in the acquisition calendar – from the sending out and receiving of key documents, the checking and validation of author materials, to the chasing of manuscripts and the handling of any post-publication correspondence.
- Assisting the Acquisitions Editor with conference preparation/book launches/marketing tasks.
- Manage your workflow with sometimes competing requests from several people, and learn to prioritize and “own” your project work
- A keen understanding of key stakeholders in the book lifecycle, and how to approach sometimes detailed and time-sensitive requests
