About the job
Based at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Mallorca, as the Engineering Manager, you will support and assist in overseeing all engineering-related activities, ensuring that the services provided are balanced to meet the needs of the physical property, our customers, and colleagues. You will play an active role in the daily operations of the department, supporting the Director in leading, mentoring, and educating the engineering team. This role is a hybrid of hands-on technical work and high-level management, ensuring that all guest-facing and back-of-house systems—from luxury suites to central cooling plants—run without interruption
As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, and supervise a multi-skilled team of technicians, electricians, and plumbers. Managers must coordinate shifts, delegate work orders, and conduct performance reviews
- CMMS Utilization: Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) to track work orders, asset performance, and maintenance history.
- Daily Operational Supervision: Manage the distribution and timely completion of work orders. This includes overseeing repairs for HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, laundry equipment, and kitchen facilities.
- Energy & Sustainability Management: Track energy and water consumption and implement resource-saving initiatives to meet hotel sustainability goals.
- Daily Maintenance Oversight: Direct and inspect the daily work of technicians and maintenance staff across guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.

- Emergency Response: Act as the primary lead for guest Service Excellence: Promptly address guest repair requests and monitor guest satisfaction scores to improve departmental performance. critical system failures (e.g., power outages, elevator issues, or plumbing leaks).

- Support the implementation of safety procedures such as Fire, Life, Health, Safety, and Security, Emergency, and Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards.
- Assist in the identification and coordination of outsourced engineering companies and services.
- Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance programs according to Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.
- Support the People & Culture Team in recruitment, employee development programs, labor cost management, community initiatives, and employee evaluation and recognition.
- Assist the IT&T Director in telecommunications upgrades, annual maintenance of contingency systems, and testing of emergency power systems as per Mandarin Oriental guidelines.
- Provide support to the Operations team with training and demonstrations on various systems like key systems, audiovisual equipment, lighting, and temperature control systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of all front and back of house areas to ensure quality and standards are maintained.
- Ensure all technical documents, drawings, and manuals are updated in case of changes.
- Maintain up-to-date certifications, test reports, inspections, and maintenance records in a well-organized manner.
- Be fully familiar with all technical details of the hotel’s plant and services to provide support and ensure standards are upheld.
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and cost estimates related to engineering functions.
- Actively contribute to energy conservation efforts and assist with energy control measures.
- Maintain contact with local authorities and government departments (Fire Service, Electrical and Mechanical Service, Water Supply, etc.) to ensure compliance and to seek advice or assistance when necessary.
- Promote and support MOHG’s Fire, Life, Health, Safety, and Security guidelines across all relevant areas.
As Engineering Manager, we expect from you:
Experience and education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably in areas such as Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Renewable Energy Engineering).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering or facilities management, preferably within luxury hospitality.
- Experience in pre-opening projects and resorts is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of major building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and energy management systems.
- Proficiency in office automation tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and other relevant software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of quality.
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing issues.
- Ability to work well within a team and to support senior management in engineering operations.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations within a hotel or similar setting.
- Flexibility to support emergency operations and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
