Overview:
As a senior Market Access leader for the BD Interventional – Peripheral Intervention (PI) business within Europe, this role plays a meaningful part in enabling balanced patient access, competitive reimbursement outcomes, and commercial success across the region.
Guided by BD Excellence principles and the imperatives to compete, innovate, and deliver, the Director is accountable for translating strategy into execution—ensuring that market access activities are disciplined, evidence based, measurable, and closely aligned with BDI regional and global priorities.
A core expectation of the role is the development and maintenance of deep knowledge and understanding of BD PI products, including their clinical application, economic value, competitive positioning, and evidence requirements. This product mastery is crucial to engage with internal partners as well as to support local strategies to credibly engage payers, policymakers, clinicians, and to ensure market access strategies are tightly connected to real world PI adoption and outcomes.
The role is encouraged to maintain a deep knowledge of the Spanish Market Access landscape and function as a collaborative partner for regional and local colleagues in this regard.
Reporting to the Vice President Public Affairs EMEA and working in close partnership with the Senior Director BDI PI Europe, the Director is responsible for leading market access and payer value activities for the regional PI business.
Strategy, Competition & Value
Guide the development of robust, winning market access and payer value strategies for the PI portfolio, grounded in clear problem definition, payer insight, and competitive understanding.
Conduct and coordinate payer and pricing research, market access landscaping, and opportunity assessments to advise prioritisation and investment decisions.
Identify commercial and access barriers early and proactively drive risk mitigation strategies that protect and improve PI adoption.
Build reimbursement and payment policy positions, demonstrating BD advocacy priorities and engagement with trade associations and medical societies.
Advise on Market Access strategy development in Spain across Business Units and with local colleagues
Innovation & Evidence (Innovate)
Partner closely with Medical Affairs, HEOR, Marketing, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to define differentiated PI value propositions and translate clinical and economic evidence into compelling payer narratives.
Act as a key partner to evidence‑generation functions, helping develop data strategies that address payer, HTA, and policy requirements for PI technologies.
Support the development of innovative access pathways, including coding, coverage, reimbursement, and alternative payment mechanisms, evaluating their commercial impact and scalability.
Drive continuous improvement in market access tools and methodologies in line with BD Excellence standards.
Execution & Results (Deliver)
Guide and support country affiliates in the tactical execution of regional market access strategies, including HTA submissions, institutional access initiatives, and payer engagements.
Engage externally with payers, policymakers, and relevant experts at national, regional, and local levels to advance PI access objectives.
Facilitate payer negotiations, including technical HTA‑related discussions, ensuring consistency, credibility, and alignment with regional strategy.
Develop and deploy high‑quality regional market access tools (e.g. value dossiers, payer presentations) to enable effective local execution.
Maintain an active presence at relevant industry forums and medical society meetings to supervise trends and strengthen BD’s PI access positioning.
Product & System Expertise
Build and maintain deep expertise in BD PI products, their clinical use cases, outcomes, and economic value drivers.
Develop and sustain strong understanding of payer systems, HTA frameworks, and reimbursement dynamics across Europe, with particular focus on key EU markets.
Serve as a trusted internal expert, translating sophisticated external dynamics into clear strategic and operational mentorship for leadership and cross‑functional partners.
