About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, as the Barista you will be responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience through the preparation and service of high-quality coffee, tea, and specialty beverages, whilst providing friendly, efficient, and personalised service.
As Barista, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Preparing and serving a wide range of coffee, tea, and other hot and cold beverages according to hotel standards, recipes, and presentation guidelines.
- Setting up the coffee station and preparing daily mise en place, ensuring coffee, milk, alternative milks, teas, syrups, garnishes, glassware, chinaware, fresh juices and tools are properly stocked and organised.
- Ensuring the coffee machine, grinders, brewing equipment, and service area are clean, calibrated, and ready for service at all times.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of the coffee and barista area, including regular sanitisation of surfaces, equipment, fridges, storage areas, and utensils.
- Preparing beverages with consistency, attention to detail, and proper technique, including espresso extraction, milk steaming, latte art, iced coffee preparation, teas, infusions, and other specialty drinks.
- Providing support across all outlets when required, assisting with coffee service, beverage preparation, and general service operations and trainings.
- Restocking coffee, milk, teas, garnishes, takeaway items, chinaware, glassware, and barista supplies throughout service to ensure full readiness.
- Maintaining and organising appropriate stock levels and ensuring sufficient inventory for daily usage.
- Monitoring the quality and freshness of all barista-related products, reporting any shortages, expired items, or quality issues to supervisors promptly.
- Ensuring all glassware, chinaware, coffee cups, saucers, utensils, and service equipment are in proper condition at all times, and recording any broken items in the outlet breakage list.
- Supporting Bartenders, Waiters, and Supervisors during service by preparing beverages, delivering drinks , clearing used items, and assisting with guest requests.
- Assisting with basic bar preparation and non-alcoholic beverage production as instructed, under the supervision of the Bartender, Bar Supervisor, or Outlet Manager.
- Following all hotel standards regarding guest interaction, grooming, hygiene, service sequence, and product presentation.
- Maintaining a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude, ensuring guest satisfaction through attentive, courteous, and efficient service.
- Working closely with Bartenders, Waiters, Supervisors, and Managers to keep them promptly and fully informed of all relevant coffee, beverage, stock, and operational matters.
- Assisting with end-of-shift breakdown, cleaning duties, and periodic deep cleaning tasks of the coffee station, back-of-house areas, machines, grinders, fridges, shelves, and storage spaces.
- Reporting any equipment issues, machine malfunction, grinder problems, stock shortages, or operational challenges to supervisors promptly.
- Ensuring all coffee and beverage preparation follows health, safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards at all times.
- To carry out any additional duties requested by management, related to hotel operational activities.
- Follow the principle of the 5Ps: “Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance” at all times and for all activities.
As Barista we expect from you:
Experience and education
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role or within bar service is preferred.
- Experience in luxury hospitality or high-end environments is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Communicate well with colleagues and superiors.
- Be committed to being a team player; proactively cooperating and supporting colleagues in operational tasks.
- Listen to every guest and observe body language carefully in order to be able to understand guest needs and expectations and consistently delight and satisfy every guest.
