About British Council -
British Council has been delivering English courses to adults and young learners for 20 years in Deusto, Bilbao. The Basque region is a dynamic and vibrant context with strong demand for English. Our teaching center delivers courses to young learners aged 4-17 as well as adults during the academic year as well as in the summer.
ELT activity is managed by a Teaching Operations Manager, one Senior Teacher, and two coordinators and supported by a customer services team, as well as financial and administrative management and support roles. There are currently over 25 teachers in the teaching team delivering around 15,000 hours of classes each year.
Main Duties-
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles. Ensure that lesson materials are tailored appropriately to the needs of particular groups and individuals and that British Council materials are used to maximum effect to meet learners’ needs.
- Monitor and assess progress and provide regular feedback – both written and face to face – to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy, using the setting and correction of homework for that purpose. Meet individually with parents and students as part of the student’s learning process.
- Actively engage in CPD to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
- Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
- Safeguarding. Ensure all YL students are safe, secure, and looked after while they are in our care.
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Health and Safety
Requirement of the role-
- Most teaching takes place on weekday lunchtimes, evenings, and on Saturdays. Some adult classes involve early morning starts.
- Experience in teaching young learners is essential ( primary and secondary)
- Increasingly our young learner teaching takes place in schools, so travel is often required.
- Teachers may be expected to work in more than one location, e.g. British Council center and a partner institution.
