ICFO is offering a research engineer position to a highly motivated student (MSc level) who wishes to gain experimental optics experience in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The successful candidate will be joining the Ultracold Quantum Gases group led by Prof. Dr. Leticia Tarruell. The group have experience in study and develop new advanced materials, devices and systems for information and communication technologies, in particular displays, image sensors and cybersecurity.
The project focuses on the development of experimental tools for the spin-dependent manipulation of fermionic strontium atoms, within platforms for quantum-gas microscopy and Rydberg atom array experiments.
Responsibilities:
- Development of a narrow-linewidth laser system at 689 nm, including slave laser and injection-locking techniques.
- Adaptation of a laser system for cooling and trapping fermionic strontium.
- Implementation of optical methods for spin-dependent potentials.
Development of a filtering Fabry–Pérot cavity to match the stringent spectral requirements of the spin-dependent application.
-
The work will be financed through the Quantum Flagship project PASQuanS2.1 and the Generalitat de Catalunya (“Quàntica– Vall de la Mediterrània de les Ciències i les Tecnologies Quàntiques” Government Agreement GOV/51/2022 promoted by Secretariat of Digital Policies of the Government of Catalonia).
Eligibility and Conditions
Candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally-recognized Master degree in Physics, Photonics or a related field.
Background in optics, AMO, or experimental quantum physics is required, and experience with laser systems and strong motivation for experimental work and teamwork is an asset.
