The IMDEA Software Institute (Madrid, Spain) invites applications for a Project Scientist position. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Antonio Fernández.
The Project Scientist will be integrated into the research team of the UrbanSWARM project. UrbanSWARM aims to address major urban challenges (including climate change, biodiversity loss, water scarcity, waste generation, and social inequality) by activating underutilized urban spaces through the deployment of small, high-impact nature-based solutions. The successful candidate will coordinate the IMDEA Software research team participating in the project, with a particular focus on the Urban Living Lab (ULL) located in the Horta Sud region of Valencia.
The candidate will oversee the activities of the different research team members and actively contribute to the development of software solutions for collecting image and environmental data from the Valencia ULL. Their responsibilities will include the analysis and fusion of heterogeneous data sources, territorial clustering and characterization, fluid dynamics modeling, and the assessment of the potential impacts of events and interventions. These activities will involve the application of image processing techniques, algorithmic optimization, computational modeling, artificial intelligence methods, and advanced data visualization tools.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Computer Science or similar area, have a solid publication record in the relevant areas (machine learning, AI, image processing, optimization), and proven experience in the coordination and direction of research teams.
The positions are based in Madrid, Spain, where the IMDEA Software Institute is situated. Salaries are internationally competitive and include attractive conditions such as access to an excellent public healthcare system. The working language at the institute is English. Knowledge of Spanish is not required.
