About KULT FARM
KULT FARM makes a true and natural alternative to meat from mycelium solid state fermentation. As a venture-backed business, we are pioneering this approach.
Our mission is to foster the world’s transition to a sustainable food system- without asking consumers to compromise on taste, texture, or price.
Our planet cannot sustain our current food system; therefore, we believe in producing exceptional alternative products to remove the current strain on our environment and ensure food security for our future ever-growing population.
This is your opportunity to have an impact on our planet and experience a startup in its earliest days.
Role
Translate our mycelium-based production from pilot-scale to industrial-grade manufacturing. Your primary responsibility is to design, validate, and implement scalable production processes, ensuring that our Solid-State Fermentation (SSF), upstream and downstream processing (DSP) can operate reliably at commercial scale.
You will work hands-on with our pilot plant team, upgrade current processes to industrial, and build the technical backbone required for scaling—whether executed internally or via selected external partners. External manufacturing and supply chain design are part of your scope, but always derived from a deep understanding of process requirements, equipment constraints, and production economics.
This is not a pure management role. We are looking for an engineer who has personally scaled processes and facilities, and who can translate first-of-a-kind systems into industrial reality.
Key responsibilities
Pilot plant optimization & engineering development
- Expand the technical development of the pilot facility as a scale-up platform.
- Design and run scale-up trials, including process validation and data generation for industrial transfer.
- Specify and evaluate industrial equipment (fermentation, handling, drying, packaging).
- Support to amend process documentation (SOPs, PFDs, P&IDs, scale-up reports).
Scale-Up
- Scale-up of SSF and DSP processes from pilot plant to industrial scale
- Define critical process parameters, mass and energy balances, and equipment requirements.
- Translate pilot plant learnings into industrial process designs, including line layouts and throughput models.
- Identify scale-up risks (heat transfer, contamination, heterogeneity, etc.) and design mitigation strategies.
Industrial Strategy & Facility Design
- Contribute to FOAK facility design, including capacity planning and modular expansion concepts.
- Support capex planning and equipment sourcing decisions based on process requirements.
- Ensure IP protection through smart process and facility design.
External Manufacturing
- Identify and technically evaluate co-manufacturers where relevant.
- Translate Kult Farm processes into partner-compatible production setups.
- Support industrial trials and process transfer to external facilities.
- Ensure partners meet technical, quality, and process fidelity requirements.
Supply Chain Design (Process-Driven)
- Design a supply chain aligned with process needs (raw materials, substrates, packaging).
- Collaborate on logistics, storage, and production planning tied to process constraints.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (food engineering, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, or similar)
- 10+ years in the food industry with direct involvement in process scale-up and industrial production.
- Proven experience scaling food production from NPD → pilot → industrial scale; ideally in fermentation-based systems (e.g., yogurt, cheese, tempeh, salami, or similar).
- Hands-on experience designing or commissioning production lines or facilities; not purely managerial.
- Well-connected across equipment suppliers, engineering firms, and production experts; able to unlock solutions quickly.
- Comfortable working in early-stage, ambiguous environments and turning incomplete data into actionable engineering decisions.
