POSITION SUMMARY / MISSION
The aim of this position is to cover and ensure medical tasks within the framework of national requirements and Almirall's standards, with a specific focus on Central Nervous System (CNS) therapeutic areas. The role provides medical and scientific leadership to support the development, launch and optimal use of Almirall’s CNS portfolio across its lifecycle.
Main Mission
- Providing medical and scientific expertise about designated Almirall products and related indication areas that contributes to the execution of the strategic and operational (brand and medical expert engagement) plans throughout the lifecycle to achieve medical and business objectives.
- Being a trusted scientific partner who provides medical and scientific expertise to support the development and market access of new therapies and the optimal use of existing Almirall products. This person develops and delivers a fair and balanced communication based on scientific and clinical data to build valued partnership with our medical experts and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Being an active member of the local cross functional team and actively insert the medical perspective in the strategic and operational local brand plans. This person designs, executes and/or supports medical projects and initiatives. He/she supports the development and approval of (promotional) materials and will ensure the medical knowledge of the Almirall employees is adequate and up to date.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical and scientific excellence
- Being a scientific expert in designated medical therapies and related indication areas, as well as in healthcare in general, he/she applies his/her knowledge in cooperation with other departments in order to achieve the overall corporate strategic goals.
- Defining scientific gaps within the product profiles and therapeutic areas.
- Translating scientific knowledge and insights into strategies and actions.
- Setting up medical projects (e.g. patient support program, early access programs), coordination and implementation.
- Delivering scientific updates and training to ensure the field force and other relevant colleagues are adequately trained. Active member in cross-functional teams, leading on medical strategy and operational activities.
- Participation in international, national, and regional congresses, symposia and advanced training events.
- Ensures that all deliverables are achieved, within budget target, with the highest standard of quality, in compliance with all applicable quality processes, external requirements, ethical standards, and business needs.
Scientific exchange and engagement
- Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with medical experts and with a minimum proportion of (20-50 %) and other stakeholders (e.g. patient organizations). Documented activities in the field (e.g. medical exchange, coordinating advisory boards, round table meetings, pre-launch/launch activities, etc.)
- Expected infield time: Sr. MM back office < 20%, Hybrid-function ~50%, MSL 70%
- For a hybrid role the number of the medical expert target can be included.
- (S)he understands their professional interests and identifies unmet medical needs, treatment decision drivers and scientific gaps in relation to the development of (new) medicines and therapeutic areas.
- Exchanges scientific information in compliant ways with external stakeholders such as medical experts and patient organizations. This includes but is not limited to responding to medical information requests, providing (scientific) presentations, chairing advisory boards and engaging in scientific discussions. In addition, the Sr. Medical Affairs Manager actively gains new insights and puts them into context to develop a patient-centric approach.
Gaining insight
- Understanding the research/clinical interests of HCPs, understanding their clinical reality, identifying and linking unmet medical needs, factors influencing treatment decisions and scientific gaps in the development of (new) evidence, drugs, and therapeutic areas.
Data dissemination
- Promotes scientific data dissemination (i.e. manuscripts, congresses presentations) according to the brand needs and actively shares and discusses relevant new scientific data with medical experts and other stakeholders. This can also include writing and/or support writing of scientific publications and posters.
Data generation
- The Sr. Medical Affairs Manager develops, coordinates, and supports scientific research and data collection in different phases and situations in order to generate meaningful data.
- Coordination of company-initiated studies (in collaboration with GCO and GMA)
- Generation of Real-World Evidence (RWE)
- Identify and progress IIS initiatives.
Compliance and ethics
- The Sr. Medical Affairs Manager acts as a role model for compliance and ensure in collaboration with compliance team that country as well as company rules and regulations are met.
- Review and approval of promotional materials and activities.
- Compliant with law and regulations (Medicines Act, Code of Conduct, GDPR) as well as internal SOPs.

- External: Medical experts, HCPs, scientists, pharmacists, nurses, payers
- Internal: medical, marketing, sales, market access, compliance, finance, R&D and other departments from local and global perspective
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Degree in medicine, pharmacy, or life sciences (MSc, MD, PhD)
Experience
- Scientific experience (e.g. in clinical research)
- Prior medical affairs experience in a pharmaceutical company desirable.
- Expertise in the field of neurology desirable
- Experience of working closely with commercial/marketing functions and an understanding of corporate and operational business issues.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Specific Knowledge
- Fluent level of English and (local language(s)) in oral and written communication.
- Medical and/or scientific expertise in a disease area is an advantage.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance rules.
