IRB Barcelona is seeking a talented and motivated Lab Technician to join the Biomedical Genomics Lab led by Dr. Núria López-Bigas at IRB Barcelona (bbglab.irbbarcelona.org).
We are looking for a motivated individual with great organizational and teamwork skills to join Dr. Núria López-Bigas team focused on the study of cancer from a genomics perspective. We are particularly interested in the study of mutational processes in human cells, the identification of cancer driver mutations, genes and pathways across tumor types, and the study of their potential as therapeutic targets. We are a team of researchers in computational biology and experimental expertise, and therefore the interplay between both areas is key.
In particular, the position will involve support in sample collection and database management, DNA and RNA extractions, handling of primary human samples, sample QCs in sequencing library preparation, and general laboratory support in basic molecular biology techniques as well as purchasing.
This position is co-funded by the project “Discovering the Molecular Signatures of Cancer Promotion to Inform Prevention (PROMINENT)”, funded by Cancer Research UK and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), under grant number CGCATF-2021/100008.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical support to research projects within the laboratory.
Conduct routine laboratory experiments under the supervision of researchers.
Help the team in sample collection in local hospitals when needed.
Maintain detailed and organized laboratory records and databases.
Manage reagents and other laboratory supplies to ensure correct inventory and availability.
Assist in the handling, storage, and disposal of biological samples and hazardous materials.
Work collaboratively with researchers and other laboratory staff.
Communicate effectively with team members to support research objectives.
Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment.
YOU HAVE
Technical certification (FPI or FPII) or Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Highly motivated and collaborative person.
Willingness to keep on learning.
Ability to work independently in a demanding research environment.
Fluency in English. High writing and verbal communication skills in English.
Willingness to support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE
Familiarity with electronic notebooks, RNA/DNA extraction methods, library preparation will be
considered but not required.
Fluency in Catalan and/or Spanish.
Extracurricular experience or internship in a similar position.
