The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute is seeking a Junior researcher at the Childhood Liver Oncology group to conduct a proteomics-based study aimed at identifying diagnostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets. The candidate will process and analyze proteomic datasets, integrate results with clinical and molecular information, and support therapeutic target prioritization. They will vbe involved in data interpretation, and preparation of figures, reports, and the scientific manuscrit. Experience in omics data analysis, cancer biology, and basic bioinformatics will be valued.
The candidate will be responsible for supporting and conducting research activities within the Childhood Liver Oncology Group (c-LOG), focused on the molecular characterization of pediatric liver tumors and the identification of clinically relevant biomarkers.
Main responsibilities include:

Processing and handling human biological samples from pediatric liver cancer patients and control tissues.

Conducting proteomic profiling of pediatric liver tumor and matched non-tumor samples.

Performing bioinformatic and statistical analyses of high-throughput spatial proteomic and proteomic datasets for biomarker discovery and validation.

Integrating molecular and clinical data to support translational research and precision medicine approaches.

Contributing to the characterization of molecular mechanisms involved in pediatric liver tumor development and progression.

Maintaining accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and research activities.

Participating in data interpretation, preparation of scientific reports, presentations, abstracts and manuscripts.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in national and international research meetings related to the project.

Supporting dissemination and knowledge-transfer activities associated with the research program.

Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related Life Sciences disciplines. A Master’s Degree in Biomedical Research, Molecular Biology, Translational Medicine, Oncology, or related fields will be highly valued.

Professional proficiency in Catalan, Spanish and English (written and spoken).

Knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques, proteomics, translational cancer research, and bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput datasets. Experience in protein extraction and quantification, sample preparation for proteomic analyses, biomarker discovery approaches, and data interpretation. Knowledge of cancer biology, liver diseases, and precision medicine strategies will be valued.

Strong organizational and analytical skills, ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, problem-solving capacity, attention to detail, scientific curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to research excellence. Good communication and scientific writing skills.

Previous experience in biomedical research laboratories. Experience working with human biological samples, molecular biology techniques, data analysis, and translational research projects. Experience in proteomic profiling, biomarker discovery, bioinformatic analyses, and handling of complex biological datasets will be highly valued.

Compliance with the eligibility criteria established by the funding body and the host institution. Availability to participate in research activities, scientific meetings, dissemination activities, and project-related training. Previous experience in spatial proteomic analyses, statistical assessment of the association between molecular markers and survival, data analysis, and handling of biological samples will be positively evaluated. Knowledge of pediatric liver cancer will also be considered an asset.

Experience in pediatric oncology, liver diseases, hepatoblastoma research, comparative oncology studies, bioinformatics, R programming, statistical analysis, data visualization tools, scientific communication, and participation in national or international research collaborations. Previous experience in proteomics platforms, biomarker validation and presentation of scientific results at conferences will be considered an asset.
