ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The successful candidate will be joining the Quantum Optics Theory group led by Prof. Dr. Maciej Lewenstein.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the PASQuanS2 project, with a particular focus on activities within Work Packages 3 and 4.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Benchmarking and validating quantum simulators and quantum computing platforms in comparison to experiments
- Contributing to the design, development, and validation of quantum simulation protocols and algorithms.
- Demonstrating efficient digital and continuous quantum algorithms with focus on novel applications in ultrafast laser physics.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) in theoretical physics.
Required Experience
- Strong expertise in quantum information science.
- Proven experience in scientific writing, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and the preparation of research proposals and grant applications.
- Experience collaborating closely with experimental research groups.
- A strong publication record in quantum information, particularly in areas such as the detection, certification, and characterization of quantum phenomena.
Previous teaching, mentoring, or supervision experience with undergraduate, master’s, or PhD students.

Salaries for ICFO Postdoctoral positions are assigned by the Selection Committee, based on experience and seniority of the applicant, as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities within the group. Standard salaries range from a lower level aligned with national Ramon-y-Cajal fellowships to higher levels aligned with Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowships.
The contract is offered initially for a period up to 3 year.
Additionally, a family allowance is also available on request and after corresponding approval for people with family charges in the terms described in the corresponding policy.
