Sr. Director PD - Platforms
Dow Jones Job Location Job ID
About the Team: Our Technology team drives the evolution of our Technology, Engineering, Data, Product and User Experience functions. With a keen focus on delivering cutting-edge solutions, we shape the digital landscape for our customers, readers and users. From revolutionizing visuals to optimizing tools and harnessing the power of data, mobile, video and social platforms, our team is committed to providing a seamless and immersive experience across all touchpoints. Collaborating closely with our newsrooms and strategic partners, we spearhead the development of groundbreaking products and technologies.
Our Design & Research org brings together world-class designers and researchers with a unified purpose: to connect people to the news and information that matters most. We're the strategic force that transforms deep user understanding into exceptional product experiences across our entire portfolio—from The Wall Street Journal to Factiva.
Our integrated approach ensures that research insights directly shape design decisions, while design explorations reveal new research opportunities. Together, we're building coherent, accessible experiences that honor our 135-year legacy while pushing us boldly into the future. We're a globally distributed team spearheading a digital transformation at Dow Jones, newly staffed by industry leaders from Google, LinkedIn, The New York Times, and more. Through our combined expertise in design craft and research rigor, we ensure that millions of users can depend on our platforms for truth in a world full of noise.
About the Role: We're hiring a Senior Director of Product Design to lead the design of the platform and design system that every Dow Jones B2B product is built on: Factiva, Risk & Compliance, Geopolitical Risk, and NewsWires.
You'll lead a team of designers that work with product and engineering to deliver our Dow Jones Platform, and report to the VP of Product Design for B2B. Your job is to set the standard, the patterns, components, and principles that every B2B designer and engineer inherits. When the platform ships well, every product gets better.
This role is for someone who sees a design system not as a component library but as a product in its own right with users (our designers and engineers), a roadmap, and real outcomes to drive.
You Will:
Own the platform and the design system. Define how our B2B platform looks, feels, and behaves. Set the navigation, data, and interaction patterns every product inherits — and decide when to hold the line and when to give product teams room to override.
Lead, senior team. Hire, coach, and protect a team of designers who can operate as system-thinkers and credible partners to product leads across Factiva, Risk & Compliance, Geopolitical Risk, and NewsWires.
Partner across the B2B triad. Work directly with product, engineering, and research leadership to align on what ships, when, and why. You'll be the design counterpart in the conversations that shape the portfolio for years.
Turn fragmentation into coherence. Our B2B products grew up separately. Find the shared patterns, name the real differences, and turn a collection of products into something that feels like one platform.
Treat the design system like a product. Roadmap, adoption metrics, contribution model, governance. Measure whether teams actually use what you ship, and fix it when they don't.
You Have:
15+ years of product design experience with 7+ years in senior leadership, with a track record of leading teams of varying sizes . What matters is the impact, not the headcount.
Deep experience building and governing design systems and platforms that other teams actually adopt. You've shipped the system, measured its uptake, and fixed it when teams routed around it.
Executive presence. You can hold your own with C-level stakeholders, represent design externally, and bring a point of view into rooms where design hasn't had one.
Strategic partnership with product and engineering leadership, connecting design decisions to business outcomes over multi-year horizons.
A hiring and coaching instinct. You don't own org-wide talent strategy in this role, but you'll have real input into it and you'll be trusted to build a small, senior team that punches above its weight.
Experience in B2B at enterprise scale . media, publishing, or enterprise technology. You understand what it means when the user is a professional doing their job, not a consumer filling time.
