The Data Platform team at Delivery Hero is looking for a passionate Software Engineer who loves building scalable backend systems and wants to apply that expertise to shape the future of our Global Delivery Hero Data Platform.
You'll help design and build the backend foundations that empower thousands of Delivery Hero group users to create, manage, and operate data products efficiently. This is a backend engineering role within the data domain, focused on platforms, services, and infrastructure that make data teams more productive.
Be a part of a team where you will:
- Design and build backend services, APIs, and developer tools that power our global data ecosystem.
- Work on distributed systems challenges involving scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Apply modern software engineering practices: code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and monitoring.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers and platform architects to evolve the data platform.
- Take part in the end-to-end development of features — from design and implementation to deployment and maintenance.
- Partner with data engineers and analysts to understand how users build data pipelines, and build abstractions and tools to make their work easier.
- 0–2 years of experience as a software or backend engineer, or a recent graduate with strong technical foundations.
- Working knowledge of Python, Kotlin, or another high-level programming language.
- Foundational understanding of object-oriented design and core software engineering principles (e.g. clean code, testing, modularity).
- Basic familiarity with containerization (Docker) and general deployment concepts.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and how applications interact with data stores.
- Some exposure to batch or streaming data processing — whether through coursework, personal projects, or early professional experience.
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn about how data systems work — from ingestion to transformation to consumption.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn from senior engineers, seek feedback, and grow within the team.
Nice to have
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Basic understanding of event-driven architectures or messaging concepts (e.g. queues, pub/sub).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration at a conceptual level.
- Interest in data engineering topics such as pipelines, data lakes, or data catalogs.
- Experience building small tools, scripts, or automations to improve developer workflows.
- Academic coursework or personal projects involving distributed systems, microservices, or backend platforms.
- Basic awareness of observability and monitoring concepts (e.g. logging, metrics, tracing) and why they matter in production systems.
