At PAILOT, we build an AI-powered Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) SaaS product for manufacturing companies. Our software helps manufacturers plan more reliably, react faster to change, and make better operational decisions on the shop floor. A typical problem might be: a machine goes offline, the priorities change, and the planner needs to understand which orders moved, why they moved, and what action is required next.
We are hiring a Senior Product Engineer (Frontend/UI) to help us turn complex manufacturing workflows into clear, usable product experiences.
This is a frontend-focused role for someone who combines strong engineering with product judgment. You should be comfortable building high-quality UI in Angular and TypeScript, but also thinking beyond implementation: What problem are we solving? Is this the right scope? Is there a simpler or more robust way to do it?
You will work closely with product, engineering, and domain experts to ship product improvements that are useful, intuitive, and reliable in real customer environments.
What you will do
- Build and improve complex frontend workflows in Angular and TypeScript
- Translate rough product ideas and complex domain requirements into clear, maintainable interfaces
- Improve usability in areas where workflows are confusing, overloaded, or unnecessarily complex
- Take product problems from rough idea to production, ship iteratively, and improve the solution after release
- Work closely with product on scope, trade-offs, and solution design
- Actively shape backend functionality where it affects the product experience, especially around APIs, data flows, and feature integration; implementation support is helpful but not the core focus
- Improve component structure and interaction consistency in workflows that have grown organically
- Significantly improve product usability
- Contribute to a product that is used in operationally critical manufacturing environments
What we are looking for
Must-have
- Strong Angular and TypeScript skills, including component design, stateful UI, forms/workflows, and maintainable frontend structure
- Ability to turn repeated workflow problems into reusable components and interaction patterns
- Product judgment: you ask what user decision the UI needs to support before implementing the requested screen
- Ability to spot when a workflow hides important state, requires too many clicks, or makes the planner remember information the UI should show
- Comfort working from incomplete specs by asking the right questions, proposing cuts, and validating assumptions early
- Clear communication with product and engineering, including the ability to challenge unclear scope without becoming adversarial
- Pragmatic execution: you know when to ship a small clean improvement, when to refactor first, and when to cut scope
Helpful
- Experience connecting frontend features to backend services and APIs
- Some familiarity with Python, FastAPI, or similar backend frameworks
- Experience in B2B SaaS, operational software, or workflow-heavy products
- Exposure to manufacturing, APS, ERP, MES, production planning, or similar domains
- Familiarity with CI/CD, deployment, observability, or performance topics
- German language skills
We care more about product judgment, ownership, and strong execution than about checking every box.
What this role is not
- Not a pure design role
- Not a ticket factory role
- Not a generalist full-stack role with equal depth expected across frontend, backend, DevOps, and architecture
This role is primarily about building strong product-facing frontend, improving workflows, and making complex functionality easier to understand and use.
Example problems you might work on
- Improving a planning board used by production planners
- Designing workflows for resolving machine capacity conflicts
- Making schedule changes after disruptions easier to understand and act on
- Simplifying interaction patterns in complex planning and execution scenarios
- Turning rough product needs into shippable, usable frontend improvements
What we offer
- High ownership and direct product impact
- A small, experienced team with short decision paths
- Remote-first setup across Germany and Spain, with regular in-person meetups
- 30 days of annual leave
- Learning budget for professional development
- Competitive salary based on experience and impact
