At adidas, every day is a chance to flip the script. An invitation to take everything we know and re-invent it. Do it better. Never settling for good enough.
Every day we get up, invent, adapt, improvise, find new ways to collaborate,
and do the unexpected. We’re creators, makers and doers. Helping athletes make
a difference, not just in their games, but in their lives and in their world.
It’s an obsession.
We’ve been doing this for more than 75 years. With an unmatched history and tradition
of creating iconic products, consumer connections and experiences, we’ve been defining
sport culture since the beginning.
And we’re never done.
Come be a part of shaping the future together with us.
IT STARTS WITH YOU
Platform Engineering designs, builds and operates the platforms our application teams rely on. Our goal is to unlock the potential of those teams so they spend more time on business value — increasing velocity and reducing time to market — while the enterprise scales on shared, secure, well-engineered platforms and services. All the adidas applications operate on top of platform engineering services, wich are completely involved within the SDLC. Continuious integration and continous deployment, testing, observability, synch and asynch communications, AI, Kubernetes & AWS are examples of platforms enabled by this team.
As a Platform Engineer, you will work on capabilities that support areas such as CI/CD, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, observability, testing, APIs, streaming, AI Engineering, developer productivity and automation. You DO NOT need to be an expert in all of these areas. Platform Engineering is a broad space, and we are looking for people with strong experience in one or more platform domains.
As a Platform Engineer you are a hands-on technical expert who takes end-to-end ownership of capabilities within the platform. You design, build, improve and operate solutions that help application teams move faster while improving reliability, availability, scalability and cost efficiency.
- Take end-to-end ownership of epics and initiatives within the platform — from understanding requirements through solution design, implementation and operation.
- Design, code, test, document and refactor complex software, choosing the right approach and applying engineering standards and tools.
- Propose, own and implement technical improvements (e.g. monitoring, system stability, reliability, operability) balancing impact and cost.
- Build and operate the platform reliably: define and track SLAs/SLOs, reduce incidents and toil, and automate operational work.
- Lead code reviews for peers and contribute to the platform’s technical roadmap, aligned with the domain strategy and in close collaboration with the platform owner.
- Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of complex, multi-faceted work with the relevant stakeholders across teams.
- Act as an active mentor for equal- or lower-grade colleagues, onboard new team members, and contribute to communities of practice.
WHAT IF I DON’T CHECK ALL THE BOXES?
That is okay.
Platform Engineering is a broad area, and we do not expect every candidate to have experience in every platform, tool or technology listed above. If you have strong experience in one or more relevant domains and enjoy building reliable, scalable platforms that help other engineers succeed, we would like to hear from you.
At adidas, we are committed to increasing the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and skills in our teams. We are interested not only in what you have already done, but also in the impact you can create with us.
- College/university degree in IT, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ~5 years of IT experience across the full product development lifecycle, including building and operating services in production.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, testing, code review and maintainability.
- Hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language such as Go, TypeScript/Node.js or Java/Spring Boot.
- Cloud-native foundations: containers and Kubernetes, CI/CD, and a major cloud provider (AWS preferred).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, Helm or similar.
- Observability and operability mindset: metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and incident response.
- DevOps mindset with ownership from development and testing through to deployment and operation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
PLATFORM ENGINEERING COVERS MULTIPLE DOMAINS. WE DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO HAVE DEEP EXPERIENCE IN ALL OF THEM. WE ARE ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN CANDIDATES WHO BRING STRONG EXPERIENCE IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
CICD
Experience with GitHub Actions or Jenkins pipeline design, build optimisation, release strategies such as canary or blue/green deployments, artifact management and dependency management.
Kubernetes
Experience with Kubernetes operations, Helm, autoscaling such as HPA or VPA, workload isolation, resource governance, cluster security and multi-AZ resilience.
Observability
Experience with metrics, logs and traces pipelines, Prometheus, Grafana, Instana, OpenTelemetry, SLO/SLI tooling, alerting and cardinality management.
Testing / QA
Experience with test strategy and automation, contract testing, quality gates in CI/CD, performance testing and chaos testing across Go, TypeScript or Java environments.
Machine Learning
Experience with ML platform tooling, model lifecycle, feature stores, training and serving infrastructure, MLOps pipelines, agents or MCP.
APIs
Experience with API design, including REST, gRPC, GraphQL or AsyncAPI, API gateways, authentication such as OAuth, OIDC or mTLS, contracts, versioning and developer experience.
Streaming
Experience with Kafka, SQS, event-driven architecture, consumer-lag management, throughput and backpressure, and exactly-once semantics.
Cloud
Experience with AWS landing zones, networking, IAM/IRSA, cost optimisation, infrastructure-as-code with Terraform and high-availability design.
AI Engineering
Experience with agent runtimes, MCP integration, LLM tooling, AI-assisted developer tooling, evaluation and guardrails.
