We embed digital processes and tools throughout the whole lifecycle of a project, from inception and design, to construction, management, maintenance and retrofit. The team in Madrid works on urban digital twins for public administrations, BIM–GIS integration, smart city data infrastructure, and AI applied to the built environment, combining technical delivery with bid development for national and international clients.
The Opportunity
Join our Digital team in Madrid, you will work alongside consultants, engineers and architects on projects that range from urban digital twins and smart city platforms to BIM and GIS workflows for buildings and infrastructure, with public and private clients in Spain and abroad. .
As a Digital Advisory Trainee at Arup, you will:
Support the delivery of digital twin, smart city and BIM/GIS projects for public administrations and private clients
Prepare client deliverables under the supervision of project managers: technical reports, use case catalogues, requirements analysis, and methodology documents
Contribute to bids and tenders: analysing RFPs, mapping standards and regulatory requirements, drafting technical sections, and supporting commercial actions
Participate in client workshops, interviews and stakeholder sessions to gather requirements and validate solutions
Collaborate across work areas including urban digital twins, BIM–GIS integration, smart city data infrastructure, and AI applications in the built environment

We are looking for someone proactive and dynamic who is willing to develop their career in this area. Ideally, you’ll bring:
Currently studying Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science or similar with interest or experience in programming.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
Basic Python skills for data analysis and scripting; experience or interest in GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS, FME) and BIM (Revit, IFC); familiarity with web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, React) is a plus..
Comfortable working across different topics (smart construction, decarbonization, smart cities, infrastructure) while developing depth in one or two areas of the built environment.
Have an eye for detail and design: high presentation skills and experience in presenting work results.
Curiosity about AI and large language models, and how they can be applied to consulting workflows and the built environment.
Data-driven analytical thinking and problem solving.
To enjoy a creative and unpredictable process, thrive in a rapidly changing environment, and be enthusiastic about designing strategies and methodologies to address complex problems.
High level of English and Spanish (C1).
Conditions
Be enrolled in the university to be able to establish an agreement with the University
Immediate incorporation
Duration: 6 months of extendable internship (possibility of joining after completing the internship)
Schedule: From 20 to 40 hours per week to be defined with the student
Remuneration: will depend on the student's level of training and the number of hours established.
