We're looking for a Senior Scala Developer to join our team in Malaga, Spain in a hybrid working mode. In this role, you will work on an oversight platform that manages and optimizes trade-generation activity for one of the world’s largest hedge funds. You will collaborate closely with highly skilled investors and engineers, building sophisticated, intuitive and performant back-end solutions that directly influence complex investment strategies.

Responsibilities

Develop and enhance back-end systems and services primarily in Scala while ensuring high performance and reliability
- Collaborate with quantitative analysts, portfolio managers and engineering teams to design and deliver robust trading and portfolio management solutions
- Participate in all phases of software development, from requirements analysis and design to implementation, testing and deployment
- Anticipate technical challenges and resolve issues to maintain project progress and quality
- Apply software craftsmanship principles, ensuring code quality, maintainability and scalability
- Integrate solutions within a highly distributed architecture and optimize for large-scale, high-volume data flows
- Embrace a culture of continuous learning, innovation and feedback within a high-performing team
Requirements

Strong computer science fundamentals and mastery of back-end development
- 7+ years of professional software development experience in technically rigorous environments
- Proficiency in Scala, or strong experience in Java or another back-end language with willingness to learn Scala
- Excellent understanding of design principles and patterns (OOD, SOLID, DRY, KISS, GRASP) with security-minded development practices
- Strong algorithmic and debugging skills
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, SDLC, Agile methodologies and version control systems
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate in a global team
Nice to have

Hands-on experience in Python for scripting or integration
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
- Exposure to container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes) and automated deployment practices
- Experience with Apache ZooKeeper or distributed coordination systems
- Prior financial services or trading systems experience
