Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Big Data Engineer to join our Analytics and Data Platform team in Barcelona. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize large-scale data processing systems that power business intelligence, customer insights, recommendation engines, and operational analytics across our travel platform.
You will work closely with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Business Stakeholders to develop robust data infrastructure that supports millions of travel-related events and transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable big data pipelines and data architectures.
- Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
- Develop real-time and batch processing solutions for travel analytics and reporting.
- Implement data quality, governance, monitoring, and reliability standards.
- Collaborate with Data Science teams to support machine learning and predictive analytics initiatives.
- Optimize database performance, storage solutions, and query execution.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of data platforms.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Participate in architecture reviews and technical decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Big Data development.
- Strong experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Flink.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience building and managing large-scale data pipelines.
- Familiarity with data orchestration tools such as Airflow.
- Understanding of data modeling, data governance, and data security principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the travel, hospitality, e-commerce, or technology sectors.
- Knowledge of machine learning data pipelines and MLOps practices.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Knowledge of modern analytics platforms and BI tools.
