About CVC
The Computer Vision Center (CVC) is a non-profit research center established in 1995 by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Its mission is to carry out cutting-edge research that has the highest international impact in the field of computer vision. It also promotes the transference of knowledge to industry and society.
Computer vision is an exciting research area and an omnipresent technology, essentially empowering machines with the sense of vision. The CVC is a successful marriage between knowledge and innovation. In addition to our cutting-edge scientific achievements, we have established lasting ties with industrial partners and created several spin-off companies.
Context and Mission
We are seeking a junior engineer to join the Vision, Language and Reading group as a research assistant.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in the preparation and management of large-scale training processes of multimodal models, on HPC infrastructure.
This position is initially for 1 year and linked to the “European Large Open Multi-Modal Foundation Models For Robust Generalization On Arbitrary Data Streams” (ELLIOT), a European Project funded by Horizon Europe and backed by the ELLIS network of excellence. The project targets the development of the next generation of open Multimodal Foundation Models and further adapting them for specific downstream tasks.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101214398.
Requirements
- Computer science degree (or a student finalizing the studies)
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Previous experience in deep learning, transformer architectures,
- Good programming skills in Pytorch, Tensorflow, or similar frameworks
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Publications in relevant forums
- Previous experience in the document understanding field
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Ability to think creatively, work independently and make decisions.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
- The candidate must be an effective communicator, multitask, and work well on collaborative and interdisciplinary designs.
- Experience superior to that required in similar positions will be valued.
- Valuable experience in Catalan public research entities.

Conditions
- Location: Computer Vision Center (Campus Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
- Part-time temporary contract (25h/week)
- Salary: 950,00 € monthly gross.
